Shimmer Braid top taking shape

I wanted the group to see the quilt as it is taking shape with real fabrics instead of a diagram.  My Saturday at the sewing machine resulted in a near finished top.  Shimmer Braid is well on its way and so much fun to make.

My design wall is not quite large enough to put the last few rows on, and FYI, the rows are not all sewn together yet.

Welcome Shimmer Braid QAL quilt makers!

Hello and welcome to the Shimmer Braid QAL blog.  This blog will be a place where quilt makers can showcase their progress on this quilt.  The FREE tutorials to make Shimmer Braid will be posted at Fort Worth Fabric Studio, so check in over there on January 20th to get started.  Fabric selection ideas and yardages will be posted there as well.

The QAL will go for five months.  A FREE tutorial will be posted on the second Tuesday of each month for a block in the quilt.  The fifth month will have quilt assembly instructions.

Please feel free to make a post to introduce yourself to the group.  If you would like to join us, please leave a comment with your email address included or you can email me, Deana, at mamiebudgeese@hotmail.com.

P.S.This blog was the former home of Jessi's Medallion QAL, so older posts will show progress on that quilt.

Deana's Month 4 (July)

If you worked ahead  on the extra blocks you cut out in month 3 then month 4 will go pretty fast.

Deana's Month 3 complete!

I just barely completed month 3 of Jessi's Medallion.  Now it is time to get month 4 tested before it comes out in July.  I am pleased with how it is coming.

Just a note:  the Arrow Head blocks are not sewn on yet but are just laid next to the center.

Deana: Month 3 progress

I have been working hard to check the pattern for month 3 of Jessi's Medallion before I release it.  Below is a photo of the progress so far.  I just love what those four arrow points do to the total look of the quilt!

Jessi's Fabric

Jessi and I went shopping last week even before I had all the yardages finalized.  We got lucky on the amounts.  Here is a photo of what she picked out.  Her favorite color is orange.  I am not particularly fond of it, but I think it will be beautiful in this quilt.  Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the turquoise.  She picked one Batik and Batiks are my absolute favorite.  I can't wait to dive in!

I am still finalizing the Month 1 pattern.  I know most of you have not yet purchased fabric so I hope that means I have a couple of days.  I am very close.

Hello and Welcome!

Hello Jessi's Medallion quilt makers!  I want to welcome you to our little corner of the world where we will share our progress on this project.  Please introduce yourself to the group.

If you need help blogging, please email Deana and she will help you to get started. Although blogging is not required to join us, it is highly recommended because it is fun to see each other's progress.  If you would prefer to email photos to Deana and have her post them to the blog, that is fine.

To tell a little about me, I love quilting and have been doing it for around 17 years.  My wonderful mother-in-law taught me how to design my own blocks right from the start and it has been a passion ever since.  This quilt was created for my daughter.  I have made her a few quilts for her hope chest but wanted to make one special one.  She looked through magazines and patterns and quilt photos online but really wanted a custom design.  I followed her lead and ideas and ended up with "Jessi's Medallion".  Now I am honestly wondering what I got myself into.

Thanks for joining me!
