MARIE: JANUARY PROGRESS

Wow, January is coming to an end today and I am happy that I have some progress to report.  I ordered and received my fabric for the Shimmer Braid Quilt and have sorted the fabric, cut out the first month's pieces and sewn the units together.  I'm all ready to sew my log cabin blocks together and hope to have them finished by Feb. 10 when we receive the next set of instructions.  I love the fabric.  The colors are much more beautiful than they look in the photos.  I took the photos at night and the lighting is not the best.

I have also been quilting my Autumn Kaleidoscope and am about 3/4 finished outlining the blocks.  Hopefully I will be doing the free motion quilting soon.

MARIE

Hi, I'm Marie and I am happy to be able to join this QAL  I just finished piecing another quilt called "Jessi's Medallion" that was designed by Deana and I had so much fun with it that I wanted to try this one too.  Deana is a very talented and creative quilter and I have learned much of what I know from her.

I have been quilting for several years and love it.  I am learning to quilt on my domestic sewing machine and found it to be lots of fun.  I have a hard time finding as much time as I would like to devote to sewing.

I have a patient, supportive husband, 4 beautiful daughters and 16 grandchildren.   I am hoping to give a quilt to each grandchild when they get married so I have lots of excuses to make quilts.  So far only one is married, so I have 15 to go.  I have several UFO's and hope to finish several of those this year.

Here is a picture of the quilt top I just finished--just in time to clean up my sewing room and get started on this new QAL.

Marie's Month 3 Complete

Wow, this is a challenging, but fun quilt.  Thanks Deana for the great pattern and concise instructions.  The quilt is complicated, but with your instructions it goes together well.  I can't wait to start the next phase.

The colors are a little off in the photo.   I think I will take the next picture in better light after I finish the next set of blocks.

Marie's Month 1 complete

Here are my April blocks.   I hope to get on schedule by the middle of June.  This is a fun quilt Deana.  I was so happy when all those little pieces fit together.  I'm excited to get started on the next set of blocks.

Marie's Fabric

I purchased my fabric.  On my computer the light color looks quite beige, but it is a pale yellow and the orange is not as dark as it shows in the picture.   I'm excited to start cutting into the fabric.

Hello from Marie

I am excited to start this new project.  When I saw Deana's post I knew I had to make this quilt, and it is so much more fun to do it together so I am putting a few unfinished projects on hold for a while so that I can make this quilt.

I have been sewing since I was a teenager.  I made my own prom dress and a black wool coat that got a blue ribbon at the State Fair.  I have four daughters and I made most of their clothes when they were little and had fun making a few prom dresses and then bridesmaid dresses for them.  I always saved some fabric from the clothing I made for them so that I could make them a quilt with those pieces when they grew up.  I loved making those quilts.  When our grandchildren were born  I made a baby quilt for each of them.  At first I didn't make pieced quilts, then I got the bug to piece quilts and the last 6 grandchildren got pieced quilts.  I loved making pieced quilts and am now working on making a nice queen sized quilt for each of our 16 grandchildren to receive as a gift when they get married.

I am looking forward to this new quilt challenge and am excited to see all of your creations and progress.  I am always in awe of Deana's talents and thank her for this beautiful design and for teaching me so much of what I know about quilting.  She has been my inspiration to learn new techniques and broaden my quilting horizons.  Thank you Deana!
