Marie's Month 3 Complete
Wow, this is a challenging, but fun quilt. Thanks Deana for the great pattern and concise instructions. The quilt is complicated, but with your instructions it goes together well. I can't wait to start the next phase.
The colors are a little off in the photo. I think I will take the next picture in better light after I finish the next set of blocks.

Deana: top finished!
I have just finished Jessi's Medallion! Hooray!! This project has been easy and fun, and Jessi loves it. It will be a couple of months before I get it quilted, but I am still happy to have it this far. I will get the binding and the lining pieced today and put them away. I always prep the bindings so I don't lose the fabric or use it for something else.
P.S. Month 5 goes pretty fast.
Next step...a horse quilt for my son.

Deana: one more month
I plan to finish the pattern and email it August 1st. If anyone has already downloaded Month 4, I just realized that I forgot to email you the paper piecing patterns so watch for another email. Thanks to all who have encouraged me along in this big project! It has been fun!
I am starting a new online group project in Sept 1st. It will be lots of fun so let your quilty friends know about it. The more the merrier.
Here is the link that tells more about it.
I hope to see all your quilts finished and posted at some point. Thanks for testing my pattern!

Kari's material
Kari is well on her way with the first month. The colors are very well put together with a country feel to them. They will make a beautiful quilt.

Tracy's 2nd month completed!
Well it is the last day of the month, but here is my finished 2nd month assignment. I have had plenty to keep busy with and so sewing has had to be put aside. This is such a fun sewing project. I love to watch fabric choices come to character in a quilt because they never turn out the way you first in vision them to. I also really enjoy taking a pattern that seems overwhelming and by small steps it comes together like a great big puzzle. Thanks Deana for asking me to participate in this project. It was just what I was looking for in a quilt project.

Lyn's Fabric
Below is a photo of Lyn's fabric. She has not added her gradients to this photo but has them. She hand quilts and cannot see her stitches on dark fabric, so she is making this quilt in positive/negative reverse. Her lights and darks will be reversed, so that will be fun to see. With the purple fabric as the exception, she has chosen Batiks (my personal fabric of choice).
I wanted to take a minute and share the story of her fabric selection for this project. Lyn is my mother and we traveled to Hawaii with my two sister and two nieces. Mom really wanted to make a Hawaiian quilt and buy the fabric there. We only had time to stop at one little shop in Honolulu, but it was in a scary area of town so we really did not want to stay long. She could not find a Hawaiian pattern she liked, so she settled on a book of Ricky Tims for a pattern she liked. We assisted her in selecting the fabric shown here meant for that quilt. When she got back to the condo that night she was looking at the pattern which was extremely detailed heavy hand applique. She asked, "Do you think I bought enough fabric to make Jessi's Medallion out of this fabric instead of the Ricky Tims quilt?" We did some math and decided she could if she purchased another piece to go with it and switched the darks and lights. So, this will be a fun quilt to see finished because these fabrics were not intentionally selected for Jessi's Medallion.

Tracy's Fabric
Here are my fabric choices. The medium gray sure is taking on a blue color in this photo, my colors are black, dark gray, and medium gray with a Burgundy swirl, pale yellow, olive green, burgundy, and pale pink with a burgundy swirl through it.. I am liking my yellow (which is Deana's white.) It has fun colors in it that seem to take on the color of whatever is sewn next to it.

Marie's Fabric
I purchased my fabric. On my computer the light color looks quite beige, but it is a pale yellow and the orange is not as dark as it shows in the picture. I'm excited to start cutting into the fabric.

Jessi's Fabric
Jessi and I went shopping last week even before I had all the yardages finalized. We got lucky on the amounts. Here is a photo of what she picked out. Her favorite color is orange. I am not particularly fond of it, but I think it will be beautiful in this quilt. Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the turquoise. She picked one Batik and Batiks are my absolute favorite. I can't wait to dive in!
I am still finalizing the Month 1 pattern. I know most of you have not yet purchased fabric so I hope that means I have a couple of days. I am very close.

Introductions from Tracy
Hello, my name is Tracy. I received the invite by Deana personally to make this quilt. I had been thinking of a new quilt design I could start. I wanted one to be a lot of work and a challenge. I agreed to make this quilt before I even seen it knowing the talent Deana has in quilting and design. I was encouraged to look at it first and then to let her know. I am stunned at this detailed design and can't wait to see it come together month by month. My biggest challenge will be choosing the fabric so this quilt can turn into a masterpiece.
I have been quilting for about 8 years with the exception of when I was a little girl with my mothers help. My mom taught me the basics of sewing, but Deana taught me the art of quilting. I live several hundred miles from Deana so our teaching/learning sessions have mostly been been by phone and email. She has a true gift of explaining in ways that even a beginner can understand, but her quilting knowledge is vast.
I have 4 sons and a sweet husband who tolerate my quilting habits. They are complimentary and kind. They also give me personal time to enjoy my quilting hobby. I look forward to working on this project with each of you.

Hello from Marie
I am excited to start this new project. When I saw Deana's post I knew I had to make this quilt, and it is so much more fun to do it together so I am putting a few unfinished projects on hold for a while so that I can make this quilt.
I have been sewing since I was a teenager. I made my own prom dress and a black wool coat that got a blue ribbon at the State Fair. I have four daughters and I made most of their clothes when they were little and had fun making a few prom dresses and then bridesmaid dresses for them. I always saved some fabric from the clothing I made for them so that I could make them a quilt with those pieces when they grew up. I loved making those quilts. When our grandchildren were born I made a baby quilt for each of them. At first I didn't make pieced quilts, then I got the bug to piece quilts and the last 6 grandchildren got pieced quilts. I loved making pieced quilts and am now working on making a nice queen sized quilt for each of our 16 grandchildren to receive as a gift when they get married.
I am looking forward to this new quilt challenge and am excited to see all of your creations and progress. I am always in awe of Deana's talents and thank her for this beautiful design and for teaching me so much of what I know about quilting. She has been my inspiration to learn new techniques and broaden my quilting horizons. Thank you Deana!

Hello and Welcome!
Hello Jessi's Medallion quilt makers! I want to welcome you to our little corner of the world where we will share our progress on this project. Please introduce yourself to the group.
If you need help blogging, please email Deana and she will help you to get started. Although blogging is not required to join us, it is highly recommended because it is fun to see each other's progress. If you would prefer to email photos to Deana and have her post them to the blog, that is fine.
To tell a little about me, I love quilting and have been doing it for around 17 years. My wonderful mother-in-law taught me how to design my own blocks right from the start and it has been a passion ever since. This quilt was created for my daughter. I have made her a few quilts for her hope chest but wanted to make one special one. She looked through magazines and patterns and quilt photos online but really wanted a custom design. I followed her lead and ideas and ended up with "Jessi's Medallion". Now I am honestly wondering what I got myself into.
Thanks for joining me!

A sew-along
A sew-along It will be fun!
I think I have decided to call it "Jessi's Medallion".
I will offer the pattern for $12 to anyone who wants to sew along with me. The price will double after the sew-a-long as we will be getting the kinks out of it for now. I plan to release the pattern as we go, not all at once. It will be offered via email in pdf format. The pattern has some paper piecing, strip piecing, and some regular rotary cutting/piecing. The quilt is 90" x 90" square to fit a queen sized bed. The large white circle fits right on top of the bed with the borders hanging down.
The project will begin in April and end in November of this year.
If you want to join, email Deana at mamiebudgeese@hotmail.com or leave a comment on this post.
I am also submitting this design to the Red and White Quilt Challenge. I think it will be absolutely stunning in reds and whites!! I can even picture it in blues and whites (my color choice). I wish my daughter wanted it in red and white so I would not have to make two quilts.
I flipped a few blocks on this one, so it has a little bit different look in the center.
